This may sound corny, but I met my guildies in a Guild Wars Forum on myspace.
True story.

Did it occur to the OP that the game is almost three years old, and that the people denouncing PUGs now are the ones who had no option but to PUG when there was no such thing as Heroes and the Henchmen were completely unreliable?

Regardless of where we met anyone, PUGs are bad, generally because of their complete unreliability in general. Heroes don't do anything except exactly what I let them to do, and therefore Tahlkora will not go AFK just as Koss runs in to agro, and Vekk will not be running a Water/Earth hybrid tank build despite the fact that I was depending on him to be running Searing Flames to increase the effectiveness of the rest of my Ele damage. Olias isn't going to bring BIP and Life Siphon when I tell him to run Spiteful, and then argue with me/ragequit when I tell him that it's not as effective for dealing damage. Morghan isn't going to bring Burning Finale instead of Anthem of Flame, despite my asking him to, and then constantly talk shit about it "working" despite the fact that it does not help the other Paragon keep up his echoes and does not synergize at all with the rest of the build. I don't have to worry about Pyre bringing his pet Warthog with Enraged Lunge instead of Barrage for my Ruins of Tombs group, and then listen to him argue that his 100 damage every few seconds is better than the 200+ damage he would be dealing with Orders+Barrage.

No, all PUGs are not autistic seven year-olds who make me want to break my laptop into little pieces and flush it down the toilet, but enough of them are that there's no reason to risk it with the current game's Hero availability and reliability.

The OP is very much aware of the fact that this game is no longer about having fun with other people but about how leet your solo skills are.

I met my Guild Leader through Runescape 4 years ago. She quit Runescape and moved on to Guild Wars. After getting fed up with Runescape I moved to Guild Wars and got invited to her guild.

Real life friends and we're having lots of fun for almost 3 years now in this game. I pug once in a while and it reminds me time and time again how wonderful it is to play with people you know instead of a bunch of cowboys.

Back in the days when urgoz was hot, a german team looked for a monk and another player. That was an awesome experience, but most players came from one guild so that's not a full random pug.

I must admit though I learned several things when I pugged. Even recently like last week I was pugging a few missions and the teamleader showed a shortcut I didn't know about.

I met my guild in DoA. And about pugs, they get really hard to trust after a while. Whenever I go with pugs, I tell them to ping their skills. Most of their skill bars are horrid. A lot of times I could "GLF" for 30 minutes and not find soemoen with a non-retarded build. Its reasons like these that make people perfer guildies and heroes/henchies over pugs.
